Overcoming stress
I submitted my second assignment today, which is due tomorrow. It's the latest I've left an assignment and I think it was mainly due to stress, but also because I wasn't keeping a couple of weeks ahead like last year. The modules give you reading material almost every week, up until a week before your deadline, leaving just one week to write your assignment. This may be fine for campus based uni students but when you work 4/5 days a week and manage chronic health conditions and are maintaining a new relationship, it's quite tricky to find the energy and time to do it in one week, so the key is to get ahead by a week or two, to give yourself more time to complete your assignments.
Well after submitting my assignment, I looked at
my next assignments due in March... One assignment is the same length as the
last but we have to make up our own fictional case study and the second
assignment involves three huge questions, the last one being an essay! They're even bigger this time around, but I have 5 (was
6 before reading it today) chapters to read up until the deadlines which takes
some weeks to get through. Also, question 1 needs to be submitted before the
deadline! Understandably, I was a bit apprehensive and felt like just over a
month is not long enough to do all this work, especially as I was falling
behind slightly.
However, today I finished last week's work/chapter and I
read this week's chapter and did the online stuff. I spoke to my mum about my
uni work and she suggested I get into a routine whereby I do about 3 hours of
studying every day, apart from Saturdays (rest day). I got my phone out and set
an alarm to get up the same time every morning and to finish studying at the same
time each day (though Wednesdays and Thursdays are longer study sessions). I
was going through my head the chapters I had to read in each week, so I thought
I would write these down on my phone's calendar. I've now planned out what to
do each day over the next fortnight and by doing one thing/chapter a day, I
would be roughly 3 weeks ahead, leaving plenty of time to do my assignments!
That is if I stick to the routine, but considering I don't want to be behind
and be a stressful mess like I was last month, I think I'll be putting the work
in like I did today; I managed to read one and a half chapters and write up
notes for each! It feels so much better being ahead and being organised to me
and my health, as well as my relationships, suffer when I am feeling stressed.
Also, writing one thing each day has broken down all the work into sizeable
chunks and it looks less daunting. I know that even if I do one thing a day, I
am ahead and that I won't worry about needing to do more work, when I know that
if I follow this schedule of mine, I'll be doing okay! ♥
